Who can take part
- You must be a U.S. military veteran.
- You must be between 18 and 55 years old.
- You must have at least 2 of these: a large waist (over 40 inches for men, 35 for women), high fasting blood sugar (over 100), high triglycerides (150–500), low HDL (under 40), or high blood pressure (120/80 to 149/90).
- You cannot have diabetes that requires medication.
- You cannot drink 2 or more alcoholic drinks per day on average.
- You cannot have serious liver disease, kidney disease (eGFR below 30), or unstable thyroid disease.
