Who can take part

  • You have a severe problem with your windpipe or main airways, such as a narrowing, a birth defect, an injury, or a tumor that needs surgery.
  • You are not able to have a standard surgery that just reconnects the windpipe ends.
  • If you have a tumor, it has not spread to lymph nodes on the opposite side of your chest or to other parts of your body (except a single, removable spot in the brain).
  • You do not have HIV or a weakened immune system.
  • You are generally healthy enough for surgery, with no severe heart, lung, kidney, or liver problems, and you are not pregnant.
