Who can take part

  • You must be older than 2 years and have sickle cell disease.
  • You must have had at least 10 blood transfusions (or 20 units) in the past, or have had one or more antibody tests, or have a known genetic variant linked to transfusion reactions.
  • You must not have impaired decision-making ability that prevents you from consenting (or having someone consent for you).
  • You cannot have had an organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplant.
  • You must not be taking medications that suppress your immune system at the time of joining.
  • If you can become pregnant, you must not be pregnant at the time of enrollment.
