Gut bacteria and joint replacement infection risk study
Part of Bones, joints & muscles, Infections clinical trials.
This trial is trying to find out if the bacteria in your gut can predict whether your knee or hip replacement will get infected or fail early. It recruits people who are already having a knee replacement or a revision surgery for a broken or infected joint, and who also have an imbalance in their gut bacteria.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.

This trial tests whether taking probiotics can help prevent another infection in people who have had a hip or knee replacement that became infected. If you are scheduled for revision surgery due to an infection, this study may be a good fit.
This trial tests how different antibiotic combinations affect the bacteria in your gut and the risk of infection with hard-to-treat bacteria. It is for people who need surgery for a joint replacement or bone infection.
This study looks at how the bacteria in your gut might affect recovery after a second knee replacement surgery. Researchers want to learn more about the connection between gut health and surgical outcomes.
This study is for people who have had a joint replacement and may have an infection around it, or for people getting their first joint replacement. It looks at fluid from the joint to help doctors diagnose infections more accurately.
This study tests if taking probiotics before and after surgery can help your immune system fight infection in a hip or knee replacement. You would be given a probiotic or a placebo alongside your standard treatment.
This trial tests a way to prevent infections for people getting a hip or knee replacement. It compares different methods to see which works best and may help lower your risk of infection after surgery.
