Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older and pregnant with one baby (no twins or more).
  • Your baby has open spina bifida, and the top of the defect is between the upper back (T1) and lower back (S1).
  • You are between 24 weeks and almost 27 weeks pregnant at the time of surgery.
  • You have had genetic testing (like amniocentesis) showing no major chromosome problems.
  • You do not have conditions like severe obesity (BMI over 45), placenta issues, or certain infections (like HIV or hepatitis).
