  • Your baby has a prenatally diagnosed open spine defect (myelomeningocele or myeloschisis).
  • Your family lives in the United States.
  • The mother is 18 years or older and speaks English or Spanish.
  • The mother is willing to give permission for the baby to be in the study.
  • The baby does not have a serious infection or other major birth defects that could affect surgery safety.
