This trial tests whether using ultrasound guidance (VEXUS) can help prevent or treat acute kidney injury after heart surgery. If you develop kidney problems in the first two days after your operation, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You are in the cardiac surgery ICU after a heart surgery.
  • You developed acute kidney injury (a sudden drop in kidney function) within 48 hours of arriving in the ICU.
  • You do not have severe chronic kidney disease (GFR below 15 or on dialysis).
  • You were not in critical condition just before surgery (like severe shock, cardiac arrest, or on a heart/lung machine).
  • You do not have liver cirrhosis, a blocked inferior vena cava, or morbid obesity (BMI over 40).
  • You are not pregnant, and you can have an ultrasound done.
