Who can take part
- You are female and over 18 years old
- You have been diagnosed with any type of sickle cell disease (like HbSS, HbSC, or HbSβ thalassemia)
- You are currently between 6 and 20 weeks pregnant
- You are not already on regular blood transfusions before this pregnancy
- You have not had a dangerous reaction to blood transfusions called DHTR with hyperhemolysis
- You are able to understand the study and give your okay, and if you have private insurance, it must approve the transfusions
