Who can take part

  • You have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
  • You have diabetic macular edema (swelling in the center of your retina) with cysts and a retinal thickness over 280 microns.
  • You have not had any other disease affecting the macula (the central part of your retina).
  • You have not had any prior surgery on the retina or vitreous gel (the jelly inside the eye).
  • You have not had previous laser treatment on the macula or widespread laser for diabetic eye disease.
