Why some thyroid biopsy samples are hard to evaluate quickly

Thyroid Cancer

Part of Cancer, Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.

This trial looks at what makes it harder to quickly tell if a thyroid nodule sample is good enough for diagnosis during your biopsy. It may help doctors improve the procedure for people with suspicious nodules.

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy of a thyroid nodule.
  • Your nodule is classified as TIRADS 3, 4, or 5 (moderate to high suspicion for cancer).

NCT06220656Recruiting
Thyroid nodule observation and biopsy study

This study looks at how doctors talk with patients who have a thyroid nodule that may need a biopsy. It aims to improve communication and help patients feel more involved in their care.

NCT06849284Recruiting
Predicting thyroid nodule results with a new test

This study tests a new tool (ThyroidPrint) to see if it can accurately predict whether a thyroid nodule with unclear biopsy results is benign or malignant. The goal is to help doctors and patients decide on surgery more confidently.

NCT05428371Not yet recruiting
Testing cancer risk in unclear thyroid nodules

This study looks at ways to better estimate the cancer risk of thyroid nodules that are “unclear” on standard testing. It uses information from your clinical history, ultrasound findings, and additional lab/genetic-type features to help sort which nodules are more likely to be cancer.

NCT06730971Not yet recruiting
Finding thyroid cancer early in benign multinodular goiter

This study checks if people with multinodular goiter (a lumpy thyroid) and negative initial biopsy might still have thyroid cancer. It aims to catch cancer early and avoid more aggressive surgery.

NCT06947629Not yet recruiting
Frozen section test for thyroid nodule diagnosis

This study looks at using a quick test during surgery (called a frozen section) to help doctors decide if a thyroid nodule is benign or cancerous. It may help avoid a second surgery by giving more information right away.

How accurate is thyroid nodule needle biopsy?

This study checks how accurate the fine-needle aspiration (a needle biopsy) is at diagnosing thyroid nodules. Doctors will compare the biopsy results with the final findings from surgery.
