Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- You have either severe fatty liver disease with advanced scarring (stage 3 or higher), or you have a combination of fatty liver and alcohol-related liver disease with very stiff liver tissue on a special ultrasound (VCTE reading at least 12 kPa).
- You do not have major liver complications such as fluid in the belly (ascites), confusion from liver failure (hepatic encephalopathy), bleeding in the esophagus, or significantly abnormal blood clotting, albumin, or bilirubin levels.
- You have not had a heart attack, stroke, or major heart procedure in the last 6 months.
- You are not currently taking medications that could affect liver fat or function (like high-dose vitamin E, certain diabetes drugs at unstable doses, amiodarone, methotrexate, or tamoxifen) or have not taken them for the required washout period.
