  • You are obese or overweight (BMI 27 or higher with extra belly fat, or BMI 30 or higher).
  • You weigh less than 450 pounds.
  • You do not have major depression, memory problems, or uncontrolled diabetes.
  • You have not had weight-loss surgery or taken weight-loss medications recently.
  • Your weight has been stable (no big gain or loss) in the past 6 months.
  • You do not have serious medical conditions like heart, kidney, or liver disease.
