Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You have acute or acute-on-chronic liver failure with high ammonia levels (over 72 or 100 μmol/L, depending on symptoms)
  • You have signs of confusion or brain effects (hepatic encephalopathy grade 2 or higher, or ammonia over 100)
  • Your medical team has decided that continuous dialysis (CRRT) is needed
  • You are not pregnant
  • You do not have liver failure from severe low blood pressure or from liver injury caused by lack of blood flow
