Who can take part

  • You have acute liver failure—meaning you developed jaundice, confusion, and bleeding problems within 4 weeks, without any prior liver disease.
  • A brain scan has shown swelling (cerebral edema) and your blood ammonia level is very high (over 150 ug/dL).
  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You do not have active, untreated infections, severe bleeding, or unstable blood pressure requiring strong medications.
  • Your liver failure is not caused by medication, pregnancy, cancer, or recent liver surgery.
