Who can take part
- You are scheduled for a thyroid lobectomy (removing one side of the thyroid) and central lymph node removal.
- During surgery, the surgeon can fully see and preserve the parathyroid gland on the same side as the thyroid being removed.
- The lower parathyroid gland on that side must be moved (autotransplanted) during surgery.
- Your vitamin D level in the blood must be 30 ng/mL or higher before surgery (or you can be treated to raise it).
- You must be able to have surgery and all follow-up at the study center and give written consent.
- You cannot have had prior thyroid or parathyroid surgery, severe liver or kidney problems, or be pregnant or nursing.
