High-Protein Plant Diet for Liver Cirrhosis

Who can take part

  • You must have decompensated cirrhosis (a severe stage of liver disease with complications).
  • You must be waiting for a kidney transplant.
  • You should not have received any prior diet advice from a doctor or dietitian for your liver condition.
  • You cannot have a serious mental health condition that could interfere with the study.
  • You cannot already be eating a vegetarian diet (you must be open to a diet that includes some animal protein).
  • You cannot have a kidney-liver problem called hepatorenal syndrome that requires limiting protein.
