Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) with a tube, and the tube was placed less than 12 hours ago.
- You need medicine to keep you calm and comfortable (sedation and pain relief).
- Your blood pressure dropped low in the 6 hours before or after the breathing tube went in, and you needed special medicine for more than 1 hour to raise it.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you do not have a known brain injury, spinal cord injury, or serious allergic reactions to any of the study medicines.
