This trial tests a new drug, RESP30TB, to see if it is safe, tolerable, and can quickly kill TB bacteria in people with newly diagnosed, rifampicin-susceptible pulmonary TB. You may be eligible if you can produce sputum and meet other health criteria.

Who can take part

  • You must have newly diagnosed TB in your lungs that is sensitive to the antibiotic rifampicin.
  • You need to produce at least 10 mL of sputum (phlegm) overnight to test the drug.
  • You must weigh between 88 and 198 pounds (40 to 90 kg).
  • Your lung function (measured by a breathing test) must be at least 40% of normal.
  • If you are HIV-positive, your CD4 count must be above 350 and you cannot be on antiviral therapy.
  • You cannot be pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding during the study.
