Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 75 years old
  • Have been diagnosed with cirrhosis that has recently caused a complication like fluid in the belly or bleeding (in the last year or not in the past year if you have a history of it)
  • Be on effective treatment for the cause of your cirrhosis — for example, antiviral medicine for hepatitis B, or staying away from alcohol for at least 2 months if alcohol caused your cirrhosis
  • Not have had a liver transplant, a procedure called TIPS, or spleen surgery
  • Not have liver cancer, a blocked vein in your liver, or other cancers (except those cured)
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no severe heart, lung, kidney, or mental health conditions
