This study is testing a protective membrane (Biotivity A-C) placed in a tooth socket after extraction to help preserve bone for a future dental implant. It may be an option if you need a back tooth pulled and plan to get an implant.

Who can take part

  • You need a back tooth (premolar or molar, not a wisdom tooth) that is planned to be pulled and replaced with a dental implant.
  • The tooth socket must be classified as Type I or II (your dentist will check this with a CT scan).
  • You must have at least one natural tooth next to the study tooth.
  • You cannot have had any previous bone or gum grafts in that area.
  • You cannot have active gum disease, cavities, or infections in the nearby teeth.
  • You cannot be a heavy smoker (more than 10 cigarettes a day), or use smokeless tobacco or e-cigarettes.
  • You cannot have uncontrolled diabetes (A1c over 8) or take medications that affect bone healing.
  • You cannot be pregnant.
