Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are having a planned complex heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine, such as repairs to the main artery (aorta) or certain heart valve procedures.
- Your blood clotting time (called INR) is 1.6 or higher after the surgery medicine to reverse blood thinners.
- You have significant small-vessel bleeding, which is checked by your surgeon and not caused by a surgical mistake.
- You have not received any other blood-clotting medicines in the 24 hours before surgery, except possibly fresh frozen plasma in the heart-lung machine.
