This trial is testing whether a combination of two drugs, luspatercept and darbepoetin alfa, can help people with lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) who need frequent red blood cell transfusions. The goal is to see if the combination reduces their need for transfusions.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a type of MDS called lower-risk, with very low, low, or intermediate risk scores.
  • You have had at least 2 red blood cell transfusions within the last 8 weeks, and you haven't gone more than 6 weeks without a transfusion during that time.
  • Your bone marrow has less than 5% blasts (immature cells) from a recent biopsy.
  • Your natural erythropoietin level is under 500 IU/L.
  • You have not received certain prior treatments like ESAs, luspatercept, hypomethylating agents, or lenalidomide (with a few small exceptions).
