Who can take part

  • Born between 26 weeks 0 days and 31 weeks 6 days of pregnancy
  • Has breathing problems from lung immaturity (respiratory distress syndrome)
  • Must start non-invasive breathing support within first 3 hours after birth
  • No breathing tube or ventilator needed before arrival in the NICU
  • No major birth defects (especially of the airway)
  • Parent or guardian must agree to the treatment plan
