Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old and in the intensive care unit (ICU).
- You have severe pneumonia diagnosed by a doctor, either needing a breathing tube or having septic shock, or at least three other serious symptoms like fast breathing, low oxygen, confusion, or low blood pressure.
- You have a positive test (PCR or genetic sequencing) for Pneumocystis jirovecii in your lung fluid, sputum, or throat swab.
- You have not already been treated for this pneumonia for more than seven days before coming to the ICU.
- You have not received steroids for this pneumonia before entering the ICU, and you are not already taking high doses of steroids for another condition.
- You are not HIV positive, pregnant, or breastfeeding.
