- You are 18 or older
- This is your first total knee replacement surgery
- You do not have a history of chronic pain
- You do not have a pacemaker, arrhythmia, epilepsy, or other conditions that prevent TENS use
- You are able to communicate clearly and are oriented to person, place, and time
- You have no alcohol, drug, or substance abuse history, and no other surgical incisions besides the knee
