  • Your heart surgery is scheduled in advance (not an emergency).
  • Your surgery will use a heart-lung machine.
  • You stopped taking blood thinners or anti-clotting medicines before surgery as your doctor instructed.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have end-stage kidney disease or a history of epilepsy.
  • You are not allergic to tranexamic acid.
