Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a heart procedure that involves placing or replacing a pacemaker or defibrillator
  • If you have a dual chamber device, your atrial lead must be working properly
  • You do not have permanent atrial fibrillation or complete heart block without a steady backup rhythm
  • You do not have severe coronary artery disease (more than 40% blockage)
  • You can receive heparin and are fluent in English
  • You are not pregnant and can provide informed consent
