Who can take part

  • You must have a diagnosis of probable or definite ALS (using standard criteria).
  • You must be between 18 and 80 years old, with either family or sporadic ALS.
  • You must be taking a stable dose of riluzole (100 mg/day) for at least 30 days before the trial starts.
  • Your first ALS symptom must have started within the last 36 months.
  • Your ALS progression rate must be between 0.3 and 1.1 points per month on a standard function scale.
  • You must have adequate lung function (FVC at least 70% of predicted) and not have certain other serious health conditions.
