- You are currently having a specific type of major heart attack known as STEMI.
- You are scheduled to have a procedure (PCI) to open the blocked artery.
- You have not had a heart attack or heart bypass surgery in the past.
- You do not have a pacemaker or certain heart rhythm problems like atrial fibrillation or bundle branch block.
- You do not have severe kidney disease, severe valve disease, or serious electrolyte imbalances.
