Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- You are having a medical thoracoscopy to check an unexplained pleural effusion (fluid around the lung)
- You do not have a chest tube that has been in place for more than 5 days
- Your oxygen level is above 92% on room air
- Your blood pressure is stable (not too low or too high) before the procedure
- No heart attack or unstable angina in the last 3 months
- Your blood counts and clotting are within normal limits
- You have not used any sedative or pain medication in the last 7 days
