Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are scheduled for surgery under general anesthesia with a breathing tube.
- Your preoperative risk score (ARISCAT) for lung problems after surgery is 26 or higher.
- You are not pregnant or a new mother (within the first few weeks after childbirth).
- You do not have severe heart failure, severe irregular heartbeat, or severe lung disease (like emphysema).
- You can safely receive muscle relaxant medicines and have your breathing temporarily stopped during the surgery.
