Dapagliflozin to prevent atrial fibrillation recurrence after cardioversion

This trial tests if the diabetes drug dapagliflozin can lower the chance of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) coming back after a procedure called electrical cardioversion, which uses a shock to restore a normal heart rhythm. If you have AF and are scheduled for cardioversion, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You have atrial fibrillation (AF) seen on an ECG and are scheduled for a cardioversion procedure within 7 to 26 days from today.
  • You are 55 years or older.
  • You are not currently taking a medication called an SGLT2 inhibitor (like dapagliflozin, empagliflozin, or canagliflozin).
  • You have never been diagnosed with heart failure.
  • You do not have type 1 diabetes.
  • Your kidney function is good enough (eGFR above 25).
