Who can take part

  • You have a type of breast cancer called invasive ductal carcinoma (the most common type), but not certain rare subtypes like sarcomatous or metaplastic.
  • Your cancer is stage IIB or III, and if you have triple-negative or HER2-positive breast cancer, stage IIA may also be eligible.
  • Your doctor can feel the tumor during a physical exam.
  • You are scheduled to receive chemotherapy before surgery (neoadjuvant chemotherapy).
  • You are 18 or older and able to safely have a needle biopsy and an injection of the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab.
