Who can take part

  • Your child is between 1 month old and 18 years old.
  • Your child is in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and needs a breathing machine.
  • Your child has been diagnosed with pediatric ARDS (a severe lung injury) within 24 hours of starting the breathing machine.
  • Your child does not have an active newborn lung disease (like breathing problems at birth).
  • Your child has not been on a heart-lung bypass machine (ECMO) before or in the first day of the lung problem.
  • Your child has no existing orders to limit life support before starting the breathing machine.
