Comparing radiation side effects for early stage prostate cancer

This study compares two types of radiation therapy for low- to intermediate-risk prostate cancer. One uses tiny radioactive seeds placed inside the prostate (brachytherapy), the other uses very high doses of external radiation over fewer sessions. Who can take part

  • You are a man over 18 years old
  • You have low- or intermediate-risk prostate cancer (Gleason 3+3 or 3+4)
  • Your PSA level is 20 or less
  • Your cancer is still within the prostate (stage T1 to T2, no spread seen on scans)
  • You have not had prior radiation or hormone therapy for your prostate cancer
  • You do not have severe urinary symptoms or a very large prostate (over 60 cc)
