Skin sensor study for lower leg amputees

Transtibial Amputation

Part of Skin clinical trials.

This study tests a new wireless skin sensor that sticks to your residual limb (the part of your leg below the knee where you wear your prosthetic). The goal is to track how your skin is doing inside the socket. If you qualify, you'll visit North Carolina State University to try the sensor and be photographed during research activities.

Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You have one leg amputated below the knee, with the remaining part of your shin bone longer than half the length of the healthy side
  • Your amputation happened more than 2 years ago, and you've used a prosthetic leg for at least 1 year
  • You've been using your current socket for at least 6 months without major skin problems or changes
  • You can walk comfortably for 6 minutes with your prosthetic leg without needing to stop and rest
  • You are able to come to North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus for the study, and you're okay with being photographed
