Reducing transplant complications with enhanced preservation

Primary Graft Dysfunction

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial tests a new way to preserve donated lungs before transplant to lower the risk of complications. It may help primary graft dysfunction, a serious lung problem after surgery.

  • You are not getting a multi-organ transplant, like a lung and heart together.
  • You are not already in another research study for an experimental treatment.
  • Your donated lung is not being kept in a special machine called an organ care system.

Reducing Swelling with a New Lung Preservation Machine

This trial tests a new way to preserve donor lungs using a special machine (OCS) instead of the standard cooler method (SCS), with the goal of reducing swelling. It may help make more donor lungs suitable for transplant.

Preserving donor livers with eXVIVO before transplant

This trial tests a new way to preserve donated livers with a machine called eXVIVO before transplant. It is for adults receiving their first liver transplant and aims to see if this preservation method improves outcomes.

Comparing two devices to improve donor lungs for transplant

This trial tests which of two medical devices works better at reconditioning donor lungs before transplant. It may help people waiting for a lung transplant receive healthier lungs.

Heart transplant study using a special preservation machine

This trial tests a special machine that preserves donor hearts for longer periods before transplant. It may help people waiting for a heart transplant who need a heart from a donor that may be older or has some heart risks.

Remote heart protection before organ transplant

This study tests whether a simple treatment performed on the donor before organ removal can help transplanted organs work better. It may help patients receiving organs from eligible brain-dead donors at a specific hospital.

Heart transplant study comparing two types of heart storage

This trial tests whether using a different method to store a donated heart before transplant improves outcomes. It compares “non-ischemic preservation” versus standard cold storage for people getting a new heart.
