Who can take part
- Age 18 or older
- Diagnosed with narrowing of the carotid artery (carotid artery stenosis)
- Having surgery (endarterectomy) or a stent placed in the carotid artery
- May or may not have type 2 diabetes
- Can be on low-dose aspirin, statins, ACE inhibitors, or diabetes medicines like metformin
- Must not have bleeding disorders, liver cirrhosis, sepsis, recent major surgery, trauma, heart attack, or stroke in the past 12 months
