Who can take part

  • You are in the ICU (intensive care unit) with sepsis or septic shock (a severe infection affecting your whole body).
  • You do not have any known hormone disorders before coming to the ICU.
  • You are not currently taking steroids or thyroid hormone medications.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have not had surgery on your thyroid or adrenal glands before.
  • Your heart rhythm does not have a pacer or certain block patterns (like bundle branch block with a wide QRS).
