Who can take part

  • You have blocked arteries in your heart (coronary artery disease)
  • Your heart pumps less than 40% of blood out with each beat (ejection fraction under 40%)
  • You are scheduled for elective (non-emergency) coronary artery bypass surgery
  • You do not have a history of stroke, mini-stroke, or significant narrowing of neck arteries
  • You do not have severe heart valve disease, ongoing irregular heartbeat, or heart failure requiring an assist device
  • You are not allergic to ketamine, lidocaine, or fentanyl
