Balance and trunk training for stroke recovery

This study compares two types of physical therapy exercises to see which one better helps stroke survivors improve trunk control, balance, and daily activities. It may be a good fit if you had an ischemic stroke and are between 6 months and 1.5 years into recovery.

Who can take part

  • You had an ischemic stroke (caused by a blocked blood vessel)
  • You are between 40 and 75 years old
  • Your stroke happened between 6 months and 1.5 years ago
  • You can walk 10 meters (about 33 feet) on your own, with or without a cane or walker
  • You have some trouble with trunk control (scoring less than 21 on a trunk impairment test)
  • You have no major memory or thinking problems (scoring 24 or more on a mental status test)
