Optic Nerve Ultrasound and Confusion After Heart Surgery

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (bypass).
  • You will stay in the heart ICU for more than 48 hours after surgery.
  • You can have an ultrasound of your eye through closed eyelids.
  • You have not had eye surgery or injury in the past 6 weeks.
  • You do not have any serious eye condition (like tumor or severe nerve damage) or a brain condition that could affect the ultrasound.
