Testing dome-only coiling for severe aneurysm bleeding

This trial tests a specific way of treating a brain aneurysm that has caused a severe bleed (subarachnoid hemorrhage). Instead of coiling the whole aneurysm, doctors will only coil the dome part. The goal is to see if this simpler approach helps patients who are very sick from the bleeding.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • A CT scan showed a severe brain bleed from an aneurysm.
  • The aneurysm was found on an angiogram (a special X-ray of blood vessels).
  • You have a high grade (3-5) of severity on the WFNS scale (a measure of how serious the bleed is).
  • You have a legally authorized representative who can give consent within 72 hours of the bleed or your last known normal time.
  • Your aneurysm is not suitable for balloon-assisted coiling (a different treatment).
  • The aneurysm is not bleeding from its neck.
  • You are not expected to die within the next 24 hours.
  • You are not pregnant (if female).
