TACE treatment for large, benign thyroid nodules

Nodular Goiter

Part of Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.

This trial tests whether a minimally invasive treatment called TACE (injecting small particles into blood vessels) can shrink large, benign thyroid nodules. It may be an option for people who want to avoid surgery but have nodules causing mild discomfort.

Who can take part

  • You have an enlarged thyroid that may cause mild pressure symptoms like trouble swallowing.
  • An ultrasound shows a nodule at least 4 cm across, without signs of cancer.
  • A biopsy (if done) shows only benign cells, not cancer.
  • You do not have bleeding problems, serious liver or kidney disease, or an allergy to contrast dye.
  • You are willing to consider TACE (a minimally invasive procedure) instead of surgery.

Comparing surgery vs heat treatment for large benign thyroid nodules

This study compares two treatments for large benign (non-cancerous) thyroid nodules: surgery to remove the nodule or a heat-based procedure (thermal ablation) that shrinks it over time. It aims to see which option works better for nodules 4 cm or larger that are causing bothersome symptoms, cosmetic issues, or stress.

Treating benign thyroid nodules with heat

This study uses heat (thermal ablation) guided by ultrasound to shrink benign thyroid nodules that are causing symptoms or cosmetic concerns. It's an option if you can't have surgery or prefer not to.

Ultrasound-guided heat treatment for benign thyroid nodules

This study tests a treatment that uses ultrasound and heat (radiofrequency or microwave) to shrink benign thyroid nodules. It's for people who have a non-cancerous nodule that causes symptoms or worry, and who can't or don't want surgery.

Freezing thyroid tumors and nodules

This trial tests a treatment that uses extreme cold to freeze and destroy small thyroid cancers and large benign nodules. It may be an option for people who cannot or do not want to have surgery.

TACE before surgery for large liver cancer

This trial combines a procedure called TACE (which blocks the blood supply to the tumor) with surgery to remove a large liver tumor. It is for people newly diagnosed with a large liver cancer that hasn't spread and can be completely removed with surgery.

NCT06316895Recruiting
Thermal ablation for small, low-risk thyroid cancer

This trial is studying a treatment called thermal ablation (using heat to destroy cancer cells) for people with small, low-risk papillary thyroid cancer. It aims to see how well it works and to predict outcomes.
