Who can take part
- You must be 18 years or older
- You are expected to need a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 48 hours
- You do not have a severe frailty score (based on clinical assessment before being admitted to the hospital)
- You do not have a history of neuromuscular disease (a disease affecting nerves and muscles)
- You do not have amputated or serious injuries to your lower legs or thighs
- You are able to lie still for an ultrasound of your thigh on day 7
