- Adults aged 18 or older
- Currently on a breathing machine (ventilator) through a tube in your windpipe or a tracheostomy
- Expected to need the breathing machine for at least 3 days
- Expected to survive your hospital stay and be in the intensive care unit (ICU) for more than 7 days
