Who can take part

  • You must have a confirmed cancer in your digestive system, such as cancer of the esophagus, stomach, colon, or rectum.
  • You must be about to start or have just started a type of chemotherapy called FOLFOX, and your doctor plans for you to have at least 4 cycles (each cycle is 14 days).
  • You must be 18 years or older and able to care for yourself (ECOG score 0–2).
  • Your blood counts and kidney and liver functions must be within safe limits as checked by blood tests.
  • You cannot have had chemotherapy for your GI cancer before (except for the first cycle of FOLFOX).
  • You must not have had a severe allergic reaction to any of the chemotherapy drugs used in FOLFOX.
