Who can take part

  • You have rectal cancer that is mismatch repair proficient (pMMR, meaning your cancer cells can fix DNA errors normally).
  • You have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher (considered overweight or obese).
  • Your cancer has not spread to other parts of the body (no metastases).
  • Your cancer is seen on MRI as more than T2, with positive lymph nodes, threatened surgical margin, or blood vessel invasion (EMVI+).
  • You have not had chemotherapy or radiation therapy for rectal cancer before.
  • You are able to undergo MRI scans.
  • You have not had any weight-loss treatment (medication or surgery) before.
