Who can take part

  • You have rectal cancer that is adenocarcinoma (the most common type).
  • You are between 18 and 74 years old.
  • You are in good general health (ECOG score 0 or 1).
  • Your tumor is stage cT3-4N0M0 or TanyN1-2M0 and the bottom edge is within 10 cm of the anus.
  • You have not had prior pelvic radiation or other cancer treatments in the last 4 weeks.
  • Your heart, liver, kidney, and blood cell counts are adequate as checked by standard tests.
