Comparing two ways to fix the jaw joint disc

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a TMJ (jaw joint) problem where the disc is out of place and doesn't go back (called 'internal derangement').
  • You've already tried non-surgical treatments (like physical therapy, medication, or a mouthguard) that didn't help enough.
  • You have not had any prior surgery on the same jaw joint.
  • You do not have rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory joint disease, or severe arthritis in the jaw.

Jaw Surgery With and Without Hyaluronic Acid Injection

Half of patients will also receive a hyaluronic acid injection, which may reduce inflammation and improve jaw function.
